Arab League says talks in Lebanon ‘start line’ amid Gulf rift

A high Arab League official stated Monday that talks over ending the diplomatic spat between Lebanon and several other Gulf Arab states are transferring “in the correct course.”

Hossam Zaki, the Arab League’s deputy chief, met with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Speaker of parliament Nabih Berri on Monday in an effort to “put the disaster heading in the right direction.”

“We are not looking for this example to proceed. We would like a breakthrough, a detente on this relationship,” Zaki informed reporters in Beirut. 

“We hope the start line for that can start right here,” he stated, providing to journey to Saudi Arabia if wanted.
