A whole bunch protest in London in opposition to demolition of properties in Sheikh Jarrah – Center East Monitor

A whole bunch of protesters demonstrated in entrance of the Israeli embassy in London yesterday calling for an finish to the demolition of Palestinian properties in East Jerusalem. The protest in solidarity with residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood was organised by the Palestinian Discussion board in Britain (PFB), Mates of al Aqsa (FOA), Muslim Affiliation in Britain (MAB), CND, Palestinian Solidarity Marketing campaign (PSC) and Cease the Warfare coalition.

The PFB’s speaker, Salem Nusseibah, conveyed his organisation’s rejection of the British authorities’s complicity within the ongoing ethnic cleaning in Sheikh Jarrah: “It’s upon us to say no to our authorities’s coverage, to say no to Boris Johnson…no to neo-colonialism.”

In his handle, Shabbir Lakka, of Cease the Warfare, emphasised that the compelled demolitions and evictions in Sheikh Jarrah represent a sample of “ethnic cleaning.” He added that ethnic cleaning is central to Zionism and that “it was a course of begun by the British mandate and carries on in the present day.”

A nationwide officer from the Nationwide Schooling Union (NEU), Louise Regan, mentioned in her assertion: “It’s disgraceful that the residents of Sheikh Jarrah are arrested, injured and that their properties are destroyed,” and that “NEU will proceed to stress our authorities to carry Israel accountable for its actions”.

The chair of the PSC, Kamel Hawwash, highlighted his private connection to the present ethnic cleaning in Sheikh Jarrah: “One of many properties threatened in Sheikh Jarrah is my cousin so it’s a very private concern.” He described the destruction of the Salhiah household residence “probably the most appalling act”.

The protest, regardless of the chilly climate, and regardless of the fast velocity with which it was organised, was nicely attended, with the protestors making their assist for Sheikh Jarrah unmistakably clear.
