Palestine slams Israeli refusal to reopen US consulate in Jerusalem – Center East Monitor

Palestine on Sunday decried the Israeli refusal to reopen a US consulate to serve Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, Anadolu experiences.

On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett mentioned there is no such thing as a place for an American consulate to serve Palestinians in Jerusalem.

Bennett’s assertion is a “vital check for the US administration of Joe Biden,” the Palestinian Overseas Ministry mentioned in an announcement.

The ministry referred to as on the US administration to stay to its stance on reopening the US Consulate in Jerusalem for the Palestinians.

“It’s excessive time for the worldwide group to take the lead in respecting its obligations and assume its authorized and ethical tasks in the direction of the [Israeli] occupation and settlements, and to cease its depressing belief within the Israeli authorities,” the ministry mentioned.

In 2019, former US President Donald Trump closed the US Consulate in East Jerusalem and merged it with the US Embassy after transferring it to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had earlier introduced plans to reopen the US consulate in East Jerusalem.

Jerusalem stays on the coronary heart of the Israel-Palestine battle, with Palestinians hoping East Jerusalem, now occupied by Israel, would possibly ultimately function capital of a future Palestinian state.
