Lebanon dedicated to cooperating with UNIFIL – Center East Monitor

Lebanon is dedicated to cooperating with a UN peacekeeping mission working within the south of the nation, Anadolu reported caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati saying yesterday.

Mikati met the United Nations Interim Pressure in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Commander Normal Aroldo Lazaro in Beirut yesterday, and mentioned: “The federal government is dedicated by a UN Safety Council decision extending the UNIFIL mandate by one yr and cooperating with the mission to keep up safety in southern Lebanon.”

The premier hailed the “efficient cooperation” between the Lebanese military and UNIFIL and known as on the UN mission “to work to cease Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.”

Final week, the UN Safety Council extended the mandate of the UN peacekeeping power in southern Lebanon by one yr till 31 August 2024. Established in 1978, UNIFIL has been chargeable for monitoring the Blue Line demarcation between Lebanon and Israel. Its mandate is ready for annual renewal.
