Israeli police on Friday fatally shot a person in Jerusalem’s Previous Metropolis who had tried to stab officers, amid heightened tensions following a jail escape of Palestinian militants.
In accordance with police, a knife-wielding 50-year-old resident of East Jerusalem tried to stab cops close to the Lion’s Gate of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, a frequent flashpoint of Israeli-Palestinian tensions.

“Quickly after 4 p.m., the assailant … armed with a knife arrived on the officers’ submit within the Council Gate within the Previous Metropolis of Jerusalem and tried to injure the forces there. The Palestinian Authority recognized the suspect as Hazem al-Julani, a health care provider who used to work at a hospital close to Tel Aviv.
