Return to Iran nuclear deal higher than no deal, Israel army official says – Center East Monitor

A return to the Iran nuclear deal is healthier than not having a deal, the Jerusalem Put up reported Chief of Israeli Navy Intelligence, Aharon Haliva, saying.

The paper quoted Israeli information web site Walla reporting Haliva saying in a gathering that the restrictions on Iran’s nuclear programme inside the framework of the deal are higher for Israel than complete non-compliance with the settlement.

This stance, it added, opposes Mossad chief David Barnea’s who was reported to not assist the deal.

On Monday, Israeli Overseas Minister Yair Lapid expressed opposition to the potential return to the deal, saying that the Vienna talks being held to revive it “will not attain an optimum outcome so far as we’re involved.”

“We aren’t towards any settlement,” Lapid mentioned. “We’re on the negotiating desk with the superpowers and holding discussions on what a great settlement is. There may be consideration on this planet to the Israeli place.”

The eighth spherical of nuclear talks started within the Austrian capital Vienna on 28 December. Former US President Donald Trump unilaterally pulled out of the 2015 agreement in 2018 and imposed unprecedented sanctions on the Islamic Republic. Iran has since reduced its compliance with the nuclear deal, generally known as JCPOA.
