Scores protest towards Jordan-Israel gasoline deal – Center East Monitor

Dozens of Jordanians protested within the capital, Amman, yesterday calling on the federal government to abolish a $10 billion gasoline settlement signed by the state-owned Nationwide Electrical Energy Firm (NEPCO) with Israel.

The protesters gathered close to the Ministry of Power and NEPCO’s headquarters and raised banners denouncing the deal.

Member of the occasion’s follow-up committee, Muhammad Al-Absi, mentioned the stand coincides with the passage of 5 years for the reason that deal was signed.

“As we speak we reiterate our name, which didn’t cease in any respect, to demand the cancellation of this settlement. We are saying there isn’t any manner however to cancel this settlement, which is able to make this nation a pawn within the palms of the Zionist entity, and will probably be used to blackmail us about something because it did within the water file,” he added.

Protester Suleiman Sweis mentioned: “I stand immediately with my colleagues in an effort to shield the longer term generations of Jordan, and to protect their dignity and Jordan’s sovereignty.”

The deal signed in 2016 between NEPCO and Noble Power; operator of Israel’s Leviathan gasoline subject within the Mediterranean, stipulates that the occupation state will present Jordan with about 45 billion cubic metres of gasoline, over a interval of 15 years, ranging from January 2020.

In line with NEPCO,  shopping for Israeli gasoline saves about $300 million in comparison with shopping for it from worldwide markets.
